The wait is over: on December 18, 2024 last year, the gap in the market on Karlsruhe's marketplace finally reopened its doors after a 13-month break, picking up right where it left off. After the first few weeks with bar and club operations and a small construction site menu, burgers and schnitzels are now back within reach for the people of Karlsruhe.

Due to fire and water damage, the Marktlücke had to close for around 13 months. "We made the best of the situation and used the circumstances of the fire and water damage to give the Marktlücke a new coat of paint, including new flooring," reveals Managing Director Adrian Sanzillo. And this is exactly what you notice when you enter the old - new - premises: The Marktlücke has retained its old charm! Rustic wooden furniture and comfortable seating niches have remained, the lower area with its yellow walls envelops the Marktlücke in a real feel-good atmosphere and the new integrated wooden panels at the bar invite you to enjoy a cozy drink.

"During the construction work, we had a problem with the extractor fan. Unfortunately, this put a spanner in the works for our popular classics such as schnitzel and burgers for the first few weeks," explains Sanzillo.

But here too, the team had an immediate solution and quickly designed the small "construction site emergency card":

  • Lentils and spaetzle
  • Sausage salad
  • Landjäger
  • Maultaschen
  • Salmon bowl
  • Thai curry

"Simply anything that doesn't need to be fried," reveals Sanzillo. The team prepares other dishes, such as goulash or chili con carne, at the nearby Schwarzer Kater restaurant. Schwarzer Kater where Adrian Sanzillo is also the manager.

The Marktlücke currently opens at 6 p.m., but a solution for the withdrawal is within reach, so that the way for burgers and schnitzels would be free again and the Marktlücke would then be open again from midday, says Sanzillo.

A sustainability concept that inspires the fan-shaped city and impresses with its taste

"We are delighted that we were able to pick up where we left off when we reopened in December 2024 and welcome back all of our regular guests," says the Managing Director. This means that the people of Karlsruhe no longer have to do without the popular Karls Club which fills the gap in the market at weekends with clubbing and DJs from 11 p.m. and partying until 5 a.m.

It's not just the central location, the exuberant atmosphere and the club's infectious beats, but also the choice of drinks that excites the Karlsruhe crowd. "Our gin, whiskey and tequila selection in particular is always very popular," reveals Sanzillo. The Marktlücke team also has real highlights such as Matusalem 25 years and Zacapa 23 years in store when it comes to rums. Of course, the Marktlücke range of drinks also includes long drinks, cocktails, sparkling drinks and delicious non-alcoholic varieties.

"When it gets warmer, we will also bring our outdoor area back to life," says Sanzillo, giving an outlook. With seating for 130 to 150 people, guests will be able to enjoy the redesigned marketplace with home-style food from Marktlücke or an after-work drink.

"We have around 180 seats inside," says Sanzillo. So there's plenty of room for everyone who wants to visit the new - their old - market niche again.
