How do you get to Karlsruhe?

With 130 long-distance trains a day, Karlsruhe is a hub for a number of train connections and is located directly on the ICE route from Hamburg via Frankfurt to Basel. The west-east axis from Karlsruhe via Stuttgart to Munich also starts from here. This means that Karlsruhe is directly connected to many major German and European cities, making it ideal for traveling by train.
Karlsruhe Central Station
Karlsruhe Central Station is located in the southern center of the city, opposite the Karlsruhe Zoological Garden. When leaving the station through the main exit, you will find the cab rank and all streetcar stops on the station forecourt.
KONUS guest card
KONUS stands for "free travel by bus and train for vacationers in the Black Forest". Since January 1, 2012, visitors to the Black Forest have been able to travel to Karlsruhe free of charge with the KONUS guest card. You can find more information about the KONUS guest card here.
With the TGV to Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe is the only German city with two TGV connections. In addition to the east-west connection Paris - Bratislava, Karlsruhe has also been on the TGV high-speed route Marseille - Frankfurt since March 2012. More information at www.sncf-connect.com.

Both long-distance buses and normal bus services are often used for excursions. The convenient location makes it easy to travel to Karlsruhe and the well-developed bus network makes it easy to get around the city.

By long-distance bus
The portals busliniensuche.de and www.flixbus.de provide an overview of the relevant connections. FlixBus tickets can be purchased at the tourist information office on Marktplatz (Kaiserstraße 72-74).
The long-distance bus stop is on the south side of Karlsruhe Central Station.

Flexible and independent
It is possible to travel to Karlsruhe by car from any direction. With the A5, A8 and A65 highways, the fan-shaped city intersects three major traffic axes in Germany. In addition, several federal highways lead to Karlsruhe.
Arrival via the A5 & A8
If you are traveling via the A5 (Frankfurt-Karlsruhe-Basel) or the A8 (Munich-Stuttgart-Karlsruhe), leave the freeway at the Karlsruhe-Mitte exit. This exit will take you onto the Südtangente/B10 in the direction of the city center.
Arrival via the A65
The A65 (Ludwigshafen-Landau-Wörth am Rhein) ends shortly before the Wörther Kreuz junction and then merges into the Südtangente/B10 towards Karlsruhe.

You can easily reach Karlsruhe via the airport Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and via the airports Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Strasbourg.
From the airport to the city
Use the transportation and shuttle service from FKB. Via the Ludwig Airport Transfer Service and the Inge's Minicar Karlsruhe you can order a cab transfer for approx. 90.00 €. The journey takes approx. 30 minutes.
From the airport to the city by KVV
Public transport can also take you quickly and easily from the airport to Karlsruhe. Take the KVV bus line 285 to the Baden-Baden station or take bus lines X34 or 234 to Rastatt station. From Baden-Baden you can take the S-Bahn line S7 or the regional trains of Deutsche Bahn, from Rastatt the S7, S71 and S81 directly to Karlsruhe main station.

With VOI, Dott (TIER) & Bolt through Karlsruhe city center
Instead of walking or cycling through Karlsruhe city center, Karlsruhe residents and visitors have been able to explore and experience the fan-shaped city on e-scooters since summer 2019. There are now three providers in Karlsruhe:
VOI
The city of Karlsruhe has been the eleventh station in Germany for the Swedish e-scooter sharing service VOI since September 2019. The company is already present in a further 38 cities and 11 countries in Europe.
And this is how it works:
In order to use the VOI e-scooters, the "VOI app"(Apple & Google Play Store) must first be installed on the smartphone.
Each ride on an e-scooter costs around one euro plus 20 to 29 cents per minute. After the ride, the e-scooter can be parked flexibly at suitable locations in Karlsruhe.

Dott (animal)
The fan-shaped city also became the 25th city in Germany to receive e-scooters from the provider Dott, formerly Tier. Around 300 black and green electronic scooters have been available for hire in the city since December 2019.
And this is how it works:
In order to use the TIER e-scooters, the "Tier app"(Apple & Google Play Store) must first be downloaded to the smartphone. The scooter can then be scanned and started using a QR code on the handlebars.
Each ride on an e-scooter costs around one euro plus 20 to 29 cents per minute. Payment can be made by PayPal or credit card. After the ride, the e-scooter can be parked flexibly at suitable locations in Karlsruhe.

Bolt
Bolt has been available in Karlsruhe since 2024, expanding its global network, which is active in over 600 cities worldwide.
And this is how it works:

Where can I find the e-scooters?
The scooter rental service is available in Karlsruhe city center as well as in selected areas of the city. The e-scooters can be found at central traffic junctions and busy areas of the fan-shaped city of Karlsruhe and in the city center at designated e-scooter parking areas.
The parking of scooters is currently prohibited in the Schlossgarten and in the northern part of the city center. This also affects the areas around the University of Applied Sciences and large parts of KIT. There is another parking ban zone at Karlsruhe Zoo.
Users are requested to use cycle paths. E-scooters may not be taken on KVV buses or trains.

Stadtmobil in Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe has won several awards as the car-sharing capital of Germany, making "stadtmobil Karlsruhe" the absolute pioneer among car-sharing services in Germany throughout the country. The fleet currently consists of around 1,600 vehicles. There is a large selection, from small, practical city runabouts for weekly shopping to spacious Opel Astra station wagons or Opel Vivaro 9-seaters for a trip with family or friends. Whether parents with baby carriages or wheelchair users: the transport companies in the Karlsruhe Transport Association are continuously expanding their rail infrastructure to offer as much accessibility and mobility as possible.
The majority of streetcar and light rail stops in Karlsruhe are now barrier-free. In particular, the light rail tunnel in the city center, which was inaugurated in December 2021, has seven state-of-the-art stops, all of which are barrier-free.

Information for deaf people
All newer streetcars and light rail vehicles are equipped with monitors that inform passengers about the route and the next stop. You will also find digital displays at streetcar and light rail stops, as well as the route map.
Information for families
Spaces for wheelchair users and baby carriages are clearly marked with symbols and are usually located at the first two doors of the streetcar or streetcar.
