Pumpkin season in Karlsruhe - delicious dishes, delicacies and decoration ideas
People in Karlsruhe also enjoy the popular fall vegetable - whether as a dish, delicatessen or as a decorative element in their own four walls!
Hokkaido, butternut, nutmeg pumpkin or the popular Halloween pumpkin for carving - it is the symbol of autumn and, for many Karlsruhe residents, THE autumn vegetable of all. So it's just right that pumpkins can be found on the menus of many cafés and restaurants in the city center, on display at the weekly markets and on the shelves of stores.
Numerous delicatessen variations with pumpkin are available at VOM FASS and at 's Fachl in Karlsruhe
Julia Kalmbach, owner of VOM FASS, is ready for the fall with her new store on Karlsruhe's Marktplatz, which opened in August this year: "You can do an incredible amount with pumpkin. Whether as pesto, oil or for nibbling - pumpkin is very versatile in delicatessen. My personal tip: pumpkin seed oil on vanilla ice cream," she reveals.
At 's Fachl, the signs on many shelves are also all about pumpkin:
- Chocolate with pumpkin seeds
- Pumpkin oil
- Pumpkin schnapps
- Pumpkin seeds
- Seeds for growing pumpkins
Dishes with pumpkin in the restaurants and cafés in Karlsruhe city center
Just in time for the start of October, Sekas is offering two pumpkin bowls: the Pumpkin Spice Bowl with cranberries, blueberries and chopped dates in delicious autumnal pumpkin spice syrup and the Pumpkin Rice Bowl with pumpkin, chickpeas and sweet potatoes in a tasty peanut sauce.
According to owner Naëmi Klawitter, the vegan chocolate pumpkin cake at Café Drei&Zwanzig has a large fan base: "The cake is already eagerly awaited in summer. We use our homemade pumpkin puree for it," says the owner. "We also have a pumpkin spice latte with homemade syrup," she adds.
Heller's Tea Bar near the market square also spoils all pumpkin fans with a matcha variant with pumpkin spice - if that doesn't whet your appetite for fall!
