With a cozy atmosphere, select wines, and Italian delicacies, owner Sabah Ponari has been spoiling his guests since September 2025 at La Poesia at 66 Waldstraße in the south of the city. From breakfast to lunch to an after-work spritz, it's worth stopping by at any time of day.

Italian flair at La Poesia on Waldstraße in Karlsruhe

At La Poesia, owner Sabah Ponari combines his love of Italian cuisine with the Dolce Vita lifestyle. "I love Italian cuisine and had long dreamed of opening my own café with a wine bar," says Sabah. When he heard that the location formerly occupied by Le Renard was becoming available, he made his decision very quickly. "These premises are perfect—small and refined, just as I had always imagined," he says, describing the location at Südliche Waldstraße 66.

With around 18 seats inside, 20 outside, and a view of the beautiful Waldstraße in the south, La Poesia offers a small and refined feel-good atmosphere in Karlsruhe. "We offer our guests a wonderful time—they can relax and unwind over breakfast, specialty coffees, a light lunch, or an after-work aperitif," says the owner.

Residents of Karlsruhe can start their day with breakfast from 9 a.m. From bowls with fruit and berries to country bread with avocado, fried eggs, or salmon, to Italian variations with rolls, tomato mozzarella, Parma ham, and mortadella—there is something for every breakfast preference. With her hot and cold dishes, Sabah Ponari brings Italian joie de vivre to the southern Waldstraße.

Coffee, wine, and poetry from sunny Italy

"What particularly moves and preoccupies us is good coffee, good wine, and good poetry. Good poetry is everywhere—you just have to discover it and take the time to do so," says the owner. Pausing, simply letting your mind wander, and leaving everyday life behind with a good glass of wine—that is the goal of La Poesia. "We have carefully selected our wines and brought them to Karlsruhe from the most beautiful regions of Italy," says Ponari. Of course, sparkling drinks such as Prosecco and champagne are also on the menu at La Poesia. "In winter, we also offer our guests the opportunity to sit outside with blankets and a cup of mulled wine and experience the Christmas hustle and bustle."
