Culinary city tour through Karlsruhe

The culinary city tour invites you to get to know Karlsruhe and all its culinary specialties in a new way. Accompanied by a city guide, you can embark on a culinary journey through Karlsruhe and experience the fan-shaped city with all your senses. On the tour, three different partner restaurants await guests with delicious dishes and on the way from one location to the next, a guide will tell you interesting facts about Karlsruhe's 300-year history during a two-part city tour (approx. 45 minutes each).

Aperitif & tapas in the Heilige Sophie

The culinary city tour starts at the Heilige Sophie bar, which opens a little earlier than usual for the tour. The tour starts with a refreshing aperitif: Hugo, or Prosecco with violet syrup. The cozy start to the evening not only offers a first taste of Karlsruhe, but also an opportunity to chat with the other guests.

The first dish served at St. Sophie's starts with a Baden starter plate. This consists of delicious tapas, such as mushrooms and peppers filled with cream cheese, artistically shaped pumpkin flowers, a cucumber salad, baked dates wrapped in bacon, aromatic dried tomatoes, feta cheese and olives. The tapas are based on the motto "Sophie meets Karl-Wilhelm" and are a combination of Sophie's tapas and typical Baden tapas ideas.

On the way to the next location, the tour guides offer an exciting insight into Karlsruhe's history, which can be experienced along the tour, e.g. that an infantry barracks stood on Stephansplatz until the end of the 19th century.

Restaurant EigenArt on Karlsruhe's market square

After a 45-minute walk, you reach the next location, which invites you to enjoy a very special main course: the EigenArt restaurant. The restaurant, which specializes in slow food, focuses on fresh, seasonal, German-Mediterranean cuisine. For the main course, EigenArt invites you to try its own creation of crispy chicken breast with polenta au gratin on a stewed tomato ragout. Add to this a wine chosen to match the dish for a very special culinary experience!

After the regional delights, the second part of the city tour follows. Past the market square, along the Karlsruhe Palace and the Federal Constitutional Court to the State Art Gallery, you will learn a few more interesting facts about the city, in particular about the important buildings from various stylistic periods and the architects behind them.

End the tour with a fruity dessert in the Oberländer Weinstube

To round off the culinary tour, the tour takes you to the Oberländer Weinstube, a traditional restaurant that has been in existence since 1918. The Weinstube impresses with modern German cuisine combined with a cozy, feel-good atmosphere. Here you can enjoy the delicious dessert of passion fruit, white passion fruit chocolate, sesame sponge cake and Bavarian cream. With a hot drink of your choice or a Markgräfler wine, true to the history of the restaurant, you can end the evening in the wine bar and chat with other guests about the tour and culinary delights.

The Culinary City Tour is a tasty opportunity to discover the history and culinary specialties of the fan-shaped city in a completely different way - the tour invites both tourists and Karlsruhe residents to discover and experience!
