The Karlsruhe Festival of Lights in the Zoological City Garden is a traditional light spectacle with colorful light installations and thousands of candle lights. If you are planning a visit to Karlsruhe Zoological Garden for the Festival of Lights, you don't have to wait until dusk. With the ticket, visitors can also visit the Stadtgarten regularly during the day and stroll along the gardens and enclosures until the first candles are lit at the start of the Festival of Lights.

Lights on for the Festival of Lights at Karlsruhe Zoo

Traditionally, the Festival of Lights is still a true handmade event: the candles in their colorful stands along the edge of the path are patiently lit by the staff of the zoological garden. On the circular route, you can discover colorful light installations in animal motifs as you pass by, as well as the popular light figure of a Mississippi steamer in the middle of the Stadtgartensee lake. The colorful light figures shine in the form of flamingos, a peacock, a large butterfly, dolphins jumping out of the lake, as well as many other animal shapes. The trees are also decorated with lanterns and there are hidden lights in the hedges: anyone visiting the Stadtgarten during the Festival of Lights will discover Karlsruhe Zoo in a whole new light.

Colorful program for young and old at the Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights is not just an opportunity for a romantic outing for two. Even the little ones are thrilled by the colorful sea of lights. The family festival is an essential part of the event on both days, with a varied program of live music, magic and children's shows and exciting hands-on activities at up to four stations in the zoo.

However, if you feel the urge for a cozy balance to the colourful program, you can take the Gondoletta across the lake until midnight and marvel at the many illuminated figures, lanterns and lights from the water. Last but not least, there is a wide range of culinary delights to enjoy in the evening: from classic bratwurst to sweet crêpes, everything is on offer.
