Neighborhood impulse at
Stephanplatz:
Creative, lively and
together
experience the city

Quartier Erbprinzen-, Herren-
& Mittlere Waldstraße

Introduction

As part of the city transformation an area opposite Karlsruhe's Stephanplatz will become the venue for a variety of activities and encounters in summer 2025. With a creative program of workshops, performances and events, the public space will be revitalized - open, inclusive and inviting for all generations. The neighborhood impulse once again demonstrates how urban development can be felt through shared experience.

FLORA MOMENTUM" art installation

May to August 2025

The central starting point is the interdisciplinary art installation FLORA MOMENTUM by Hannah Cooke, Jannik Lang, and Norina Quinte (ato), which will be on display at Stephanplatz for the duration of the neighborhood initiative. At the heart of the installation are the lenticular images "Postbotanical Proliferations" by Hannah Cooke, who uses artificial intelligence to create visionary medicinal plants—inspired by traditional plants such as turmeric, garlic, and ginkgo. These hybrid plants alternate between natural and organic forms and, depending on the angle of view, reveal new, sometimes strange structures.

The installation invites visitors to rethink urban space as a place of healing, reflection, and community—poetically, technically, and visionarily. At the same time, FLORA MOMENTUM serves an urban planning function: the artistic installation is intended to help make the connection between Südliche Waldstraße, Stephanplatz, and Ludwigsplatz more visible and to enhance the public space in terms of design and atmosphere. With its integrated seating, the art installation offers a place to linger.

The work was conceived by the Karlsruhe and Berlin artists' collective ato.
