Whether you're an early bird or a late riser, the Segway tours for "early birds" through the Karlsruhe Zoological Garden are sure to catch the attention of many.

The early morning experience provides unique moments and impressions that are missing from a normal visit to the zoo. Particularly tempting: the morning zoo atmosphere among the animal inhabitants, as well as the picture-perfect sunrise experience over the penguin enclosure.

Out and about in Karlsruhe by Segway

The meeting point for tour participants is the north entrance to the Zoologischer Stadtgarten. There, the friendly CitySeg team welcomes the participants for a briefing on how to use the Segways. How do you get on the Segway correctly? How do you accelerate? How do you stop? The most important thing is to shift your weight to control the Segways. Nevertheless, the CitySeg team attaches great importance to comprehensive instruction. From individual exercises on how to use the devices, to practice rides, to answering all questions so that participants can start the tour feeling safe and well-informed.

Start of the Segway tour through Karlsruhe Zoo

Once all participants have developed a safe riding experience, they set off, equipped with safety helmets and accompanied by the zoo guide. Also on a Segway, the zoo guide takes the participants on a tour of the zoo through the flora and fauna of the Zoologischer Stadtgarten.

Due to the early hour, some of the zoo's inhabitants are not yet ready for their first interactions before breakfast. To ensure the welfare of the zoo animals, some enclosures cannot be visited on the Segway tour in the morning and must be carefully circumnavigated under the guidance of the zoo guide. Care must also be taken with the free-roaming animals in the zoo, such as the pelicans and peacocks. Here, the CitySeg team always moves carefully along the paths and makes sure to bring the group to a halt early if animals cross the paths.

Special experiences in the zoological city garden

When the first rays of sunlight illuminate the greenery of the gardens, the first opportunities arise to catch a glimpse of the early risers among the animals. Although the majority of the Magellanic penguins are still in their burrows, the first penguins can already be seen at the edge of the pool watching the morning activity in the zoo. It's a completely different story with the larger bird species: The emus are already active in the early morning and move through their enclosure with their usual alert look. The elephants are also still in the elephant house at this early hour, but can be seen eating their breakfast through the large glass fronts.

End of the tour and start of the zoo visit on foot

The Segway tour ends at the original meeting point, on the fairground in front of the north entrance. Participants can park their Segways there and finish the official tour together. Those who have really caught zoo fever can explore the zoo on their own with the day ticket provided as part of the tour. The last zoo inhabitants will certainly have woken up from their slumber by then.
