Temporary furnishings

From May to December 2022, high-quality, temporary furniture as part of "Bahn frei!" invited visitors to explore the newly acquired urban space of Kaiserstrasse from a completely different perspective.

Five wooden benches with seasonal and bee-friendly plants and small tables invited people to linger and discover the new urban open space. This created space for completely new encounters in Karlsruhe's city center.

From July to August 2022 , an additional sunbathing area with lawn and palm trees on the market square provided a real vacation feeling and cooling in summer temperatures. The integrated irrigation system was powered by solar energy.

The freely usable wooden terrace on the corner of Kaiserstraße/Herrenstraße offered space as a sun deck, recreational platform or served as a stage for spontaneous presentations, music, acrobatics and much more throughout the summer of 2022 - right in the middle of the railway-free Kaiserstraße.

The furniture was specially developed for public spaces by the company CITYDECKS and manufactured in Baden-Württemberg. All the wood-based materials used come from sustainable and certified forestry from local forests.
