Guitarist/Composer
Scott DuBois’s music is described by JazzTimes as "fascinating" and
"brilliant"; by All About Jazz as "wondrous, chilling, atmospheric, and
powerful as can be"; and by The New York City Jazz Record as
"captivating music for the meditative thinker." He has recorded eight
albums as a leader for the Soul Note record label, Sunnyside Records,
the ACT record label and the Watertone Music record label. His Landscape
Scripture album was named one of the "Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2012" by
NPR. DuBois was the winner of Germany's 2018 ECHO Award for his Autumn
Wind album. He was also named in DownBeat Magazine's 2019 Critic's Poll
in the "Rising Star Guitar" Category.
Saxophonist/Bass Clarinetist Gebhard Ullmann has recorded 60 CDs as a leader or co-leader for some of the most prestigious record labels in contemporary music worldwide. He is one of the leading personalities in both the Berlin and international jazz scenes and has received numerous awards for his work including the Julius Hemphill Composition Award in two categories ('99), the Deutsche Phonoakademie award ('83 together with Andreas Willers), the SWF Jazz Award ('87 again together with Willers), the first Berlin Jazz Award (2017), among many others.
The Scott DuBois / Gebhard Ullmann Duo will perform DuBois' original compositions from his new album, Summer Water. The music reflects the fluidity of powerful bodies of water through the ebb and flow of texture, tempos, dynamics, mood, and color, while capturing the abundance of beautiful melody and harmony hinted at by summer’s natural grandeur.
