Course
Young Lions Session Workshop
Highlights
The workshop is primarily aimed at young jazz musicians such as school pupils, trainees and students.
This event is a workshop, not a concert, and therefore takes place without an audience.
Would you like to play at a jazz session, but still feel a little unsure in front of an audience? Would you like to have several chances to try something out first? Then our workshop for young jazz musicians at the Karlsruhe Jazz Club is the right place for you.
You've probably already practiced a few jazz standards to playbacks. But a piece can feel completely different when you play it with other "real" musicians, most of whom you don't know, than when you practise at home. How do I react when the drummer suddenly plays a completely different groove to the one I'm used to? How do I make my solo as attractive as possible? How do I best "sell" my instrumental skills? How do I spontaneously organize the flow of a piece during the jam? What hand signals are there, e.g. for "trading fours" or returning to the theme? How do I do intros and endings?
Our instructor Gernot Ziegler will rehearse common standards with you and explain unwritten laws and the basics of playing in a jazz session.
