Karlsruhe to host the 2029 World Games!
The international sporting event brings people from all over the world together "in the heart of Europe". Karlsruhe is the first city since the World Games were founded to host the event for the second time.
World Games in the heart of Europe
Karlsruhe's geographical location in the heart of Europe is not the only thing that connects it to this major event under the motto "World Games in the heart of Europe". The event also stands symbolically and emotionally for sporting and cultural diversity and the togetherness of people from all over the world who share an enthusiasm for sport and feel connected through it. More than 5,000 athletes from over 100 countries will compete against each other in around 35 different sports.
The World Games stand for the promotion of non-Olympic sports. In line with the values of inclusion and community associated with the World Games, Karlsruhe focuses on participation: over 200 clubs, initiatives and volunteers are actively involved in the organization of the World Games.
Karlsruhe is the venue for the second time
The return of the World Games after almost four decades is not only a tribute to Karlsruhe's status as a sports city, but also a recognition of the success of past events. Karlsruhe is the first city since the World Games were founded to host the Games for the second time. The 1989 World Games played a key role in cementing the city's reputation as a venue for major sporting and cultural events: From the city's birthday in 2015 to the Ecumenical World Church Day in 2022, the city has proven that it has the necessary expertise and organizational structure to successfully host major events.
