The KIT Center for Particle and Astroparticle Physics cordially invites you to the lecture series Our Universe at the Natural History Museum Karlsruhe.Â
On three evenings, scientists will provide exciting insights into current research into the smallest particles and the largest structures in the cosmos. One of the evenings will be held in English.

From spark to world machine: the development of particle accelerators
Today, particle accelerators play a key role in a wide range of areas - from basic research to medical applications. What once began as simple electrostatic devices has developed into highly complex machines ranging in size from a few millimeters to several kilometers. Their history is characterized by constant progress - and to this day, accelerator physics is an active field of research that continuously challenges the limits of what is possible.

Big Bang in the laboratory
Physicists use the world's largest particle accelerators to search for the fundamental building blocks of the world and embark on a journey into the distant past - right back to the birth of the universe. Because the processes in the hot early universe can be replicated in the laboratory and conclusions can be drawn from the experimental observations about the laws of physics at the beginning of the universe.
