Lemming Turmberg Race – Mountain Time Trial on Durlach’s Local Mountain
The Lemming Turmberg Race is a long-standing competition organized by the Karlsruher Lemminge e.V. around the Turmberg in Karlsruhe-Durlach. On May 17, 2026, the race will take place for the 23rd time, attracting several hundred sports enthusiasts to Durlach’s popular local mountain every year.
What makes this event special is its diversity: participants can choose between a bike race, a mountain run, or a combination of both. In the bike race, athletes first complete an individual time trial, based on which they are then grouped into finals. In the afternoon, the fastest riders compete against each other once again in a thrilling final race. For families, there is also a trailer race where parents compete with a bike trailer and their child. Those riding a single-speed bike can also prove themselves in a separate special category.
The mountain run starts as a mass start for women and men together and leads directly up the Turmberg. The course is short but intense, and the current course record for men is under four minutes. There are categories for all age groups, from the youngest to the senior classes, so the event is explicitly open to athletes of all skill levels.
With up to 350 cyclists and 150 runners, a team classification, and an awards ceremony followed by a raffle for all participants in attendance, the Turmberg Race offers far more than just competition. It is a social sporting event with genuine Karlsruhe local flavor that welcomes spectators just as much as ambitious athletes.
