Karlsruhe, an important water and fountain city in Germany, has a diverse drinking fountain culture. Thirst can be quenched at 44 public drinking fountains, including magnificent monumental fountains designed by city architect Friedrich Weinbrenner.
In view of increasing climate change, these fountains are important for the city. They are well monitored, provide healthy and inexpensive water, improve the microclimate and promote social interaction. They also contribute to climate protection, as tap water saves packaging waste and CO2.
On a tour of five inner-city drinking fountains, visitors learn in a fun way how to recognize drinking fountains, who looks after them, where the water comes from and how it is monitored. They will also talk about the connection between local water consumption and the global water crisis and how we can use drinking water more consciously and preserve it for the future. The tour ends at the "Gothic Fountain" on Ludwigsplatz.
