LET THERE BE DRONE (MULTIPLE GAINS STAGES)
For 20 years now, Sunn O))) have been challenging us when it comes to our musical thinking. In that time, principal members Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson have strung their wires between metal, drone, contemporary composition, jazz and minimalism. The results are astonishing, powerful and magnificent - always in the spirit of eternal fidelity to principle in terms of volume, density, weight(ing) and the "Holy Sound".
Sunn O))) is an experimental metal band originally from Seattle, now based in LA and Paris. Spearheading the modern drone/black/ambient/noise metal scene, they are famous for their intense and especially sub-bass loud live shows and numerous exclusive collaborations (with Ulver, Scott Walker, Boris, etc.) and fantastically artful albums. Sunn O))) named themselves after the amplifier company whose logo they adopted and whose models they mainly play. They were also inspired by the pioneering band Earth, known for their slow/post-doom sound. Hungarian-born Mayhem vocalist Attila Csihar, a performer with a killer vocal range, often joins the band live. On the current tour and the motto Let There Be Drone (Multiple Gains Stages), he is, as has often been the case, not there, but many of his colleagues from the new album Life Metal (Southern Lord Records) are. After four years on tour, on projects and in the studio, this massive powerhouse was recorded with Steve Albini as sound engineer, with T.O.S. on Moog and various guests (Tim Midyett, Hildur Guðnadóttir, etc.). Quite simply a masterpiece, including great artwork. The rather meditative album Pyroclasts, recorded at the same time, will be released in time for the tour. Support will be provided by a veritable noise veteran: Caspar Brötzmann. We are in for a unique sound experience with fog, robes and a backline that resembles a landscape painting. And this in a unique location - the HfG-Lichthof directly adjacent to the ZKM - in cooperation with HfG and ZKM we proudly present this evening.
