Information evening with Sarah Gräber, campaigner for "Unter 18 nie! No minors in the Bundeswehr"

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child prohibits the recruitment of minors. With the ratification of an additional protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child 15 years ago on February 12, 2004, Germany also committed itself to the special protection of children in armed conflicts. However, instead of raising the recruitment age to 18, as the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has been calling for since 2008, the number of underage soldiers in the German Armed Forces is rising steadily and reached a peak of 2,128 underage recruits in 2017. Germany is one of the few countries in the world whose military still recruits underage soldiers.
The speaker Sarah Gräber is a campaigner for "Never under 18! No minors in the Bundeswehr" and a member of the Baden-Württemberg regional board of the DFG-VK. In 2018, she previously coordinated "Frieden geht!", a relay race against arms exports that ran from Oberndorf to Berlin.
