Panel discussion: Between general education and reflection on technology? The past and future of the humanities at technical universities.
Panel discussion on the humanities at technical universities as part of the Colloquium Fundamentale
The relationship between the humanities and the natural and technical sciences has often been tense since the 19th century, yet the humanities have been integrated into technical universities since the beginning. Their role has changed over the course of time, e.g. as a supplement to engineering education or as an instance of reflection for the technological world. In recent years, the humanities have experienced a loss of importance, which raises questions about their relevance at technical universities, especially with regard to ethical research and participatory research processes. In the run-up to the KIT Anniversary 2025, the future role of the humanities at technical universities will be discussed in a panel event. Moderated by Marcus Popplow and Désirée Schauz, various experts from different disciplines will take part in the discussion.
