Museum summer
From August 2 to September 28, the "Museum Summer - Baden in Culture Once More!" invites you to special guided tours, creative workshops, interactive family activities and a large museum auction on the closing weekend.
closing weekend.
For museum director Eckart Köhne, one thing is clear: "The castle is closing - there's no way around it. But there is still time! Take advantage of the museum summer to visit us - even more than once! The museum summer offers a grand finale - with special guided tours, exciting special events and exhibitions included in the admission price. Come with family and friends and let's create memories together."
A highlight of the museum summer is the varied program of events throughout August and September. From antiquity and the Middle Ages to contemporary Baden and Europe, the focus is on a different collection exhibition every week. There are also weekly special events: at the antique fashion show "Garments of Antiquity - Fashion of Past Cultures", young and old can learn all about the fashion trends of times gone by - literally "up close and personal". Socializing and tactics are the order of the day at the medieval games evening. And the historical dances in the castle's garden hall invite visitors to shake a leg - whether it's an elegant couple's dance or a lively peasant round dance. Exciting insights into cultural history are also offered by well-known formats such as the Happy Friday and Highlight tours, which are dedicated to the Grand Ducal family's collection of antique vases, Renaissance craftsmanship and the anti-nuclear movement in Baden. The vivid family tours take visitors on a search for traces of the ancient Egyptians on the Nile and explore the medieval lifestyle of "knights, castles, city air". Anyone who has always wanted to know something about the heroes of ancient Greece or about games in ancient Rome is in the right place with the reading and craft activities. Young and old history fans can also get creative in numerous workshops and make a sign for peace by making flags together, decorating clay pots with mosaic stones or designing fans, telescopes and musical instruments. On many days, museum experts will also be on site in the collection to answer any questions about the objects and historical periods in a personal conversation.
Included in admission to the collection are three current special exhibitions that are worth a visit until September 28: "Injustice & Profit" sheds light on the museum's Nazi past and presents the latest findings of provenance research. "Can it go?" questions the handling of
resources from antiquity to the present day and offers many suggestions for the sustainable use of raw materials and objects. "Imperishable eyes
blicke" will finally be showing impressive photographs by Uli Deck from July 4, bringing to life significant moments in the Badisches Landesmuseum and the history of the city of Karlsruhe - an exhibition that invites you to remember and revel.
invites you to reminisce and revel.
On Sunday, September 28, the last day the museum is open, it's time to say goodbye - and bid! At the big museum auction, original exhibition and decorative elements will be auctioned off: from replicas of antique furniture to the lifelike figure of the city's founder Karl Wilhelm and a three-meter-high olive tree with Mediterranean flair. Martin Wacker will be the auctioneer for the evening, during which

Until the end of September, the castle tower still offers a magnificent panorama of the fan-shaped city with important buildings such as the Federal Constitutional Court. But now you can also continue your journey of knowledge directly on site: The web app "Ping! Your date with democracy" is being expanded and will in future take you to places of democratic history in Karlsruhe's urban space. From the Ständehaus and the Platz der Grundrechte to the Federal Court of Justice, history enthusiasts can use "Ping!" to discover places, monuments and personalities that have shaped our democratic society.
have. The special thing about it is that users can "like" buildings, sculptures and places in the same way as Tinder - if a "match" is made, you can chat directly with them and experience history directly and in an innovative way. "Ping!" is now available online.

Anyone who would like to feel personally connected to the museum and its collections during the closure period can sponsor an object for as little as 50 euros. There are around 100 special objects to choose from: from an ancient harpist from the Cyclades collection to an ornate horse saddle from the time of the Turkish wars and a Baden crown. The sponsorship directly supports the restoration, care and mediation of the collections. Supporters will receive a certificate as a thank you and will be named in the digital catalog and on a display in the museum. All objects and further information can now be found at katalog.landesmuseum.de/patenschaft
