Beethoven, the classical music icon with pop star qualities, became hard of hearing at the age of 26, but thanks to his perfect pitch he was able to imagine the notes in context and continued to compose despite this. Not only did he write a worldwide hit with his Fifth Symphony, his only violin concerto also played its way lyrically and emotionally into the hearts of people around the world. It begins with a journey through the night - from a gentle glide into a dream with the sounds of strings and harp to a wildly roaring orchestra, when the dramatic emerges from the depths, to an elegiac violin solo, when deep relaxation calms our breathing: Melartin's romantic music puts us in the mood for further dream worlds, from Busoni and Sibelius. The latter casts a spell over us with his third symphony, immersed in great concentration.
