Since 2020, the Netflix series Bridgerton has been enchanting audiences of all ages, not just women. The life of the Bridgerton family in London at the beginning of the 19th century is set against a backdrop of love confusion, wonderful ball nights, gorgeous dresses and fantastic actors.
This series would be unthinkable without the writer Jane Austen and her novels such as "Pride and Prejudice" or "Sense and Sensibility", which have similar themes. Her protagonists also find themselves at balls, which are supposed to give them the opportunity to find the man for life. But they usually have completely different, emancipated plans.
In 2025, the literary world - and not only it - will be celebrating the 250th birthday of the author, who liked to sign her name "by a lady". To mark the occasion, the vhs Karlsruhe is offering many great events from May 5.

Landscapes like Jane Austen's with pastels
The hilly landscape around Bath in southern England is the setting for numerous Jane Austen novels. But this landscape also offers a varied picture for every landscape painter. On May 23, we will paint Jane Austen's landscapes with pastels. We will begin to create lightly and playfully. Wonderful results are achieved very quickly by blurring, painting over and erasing.
