How to date a feminist - German-language premiere
Baden State Theater Karlsruhe
Hermann-Levi-Platz 1, 76137 Karlsruhe
Can the man of the future be a feminist? And how do women deal with this? Kate likes lipstick, cupcakes and really tough men. Steve, her new boyfriend, takes a critical view of marriage as a patriarchal institution. When he proposes marriage, he provides the theoretical explanations as to why he sees it that way. Is there a chance for the journalist and the baker, who grew up in completely different worlds? How do you deal with it when your father thinks your partner is a wimp and your mother thinks your partner is unemancipated? Kate and Steve set off on their journey, sometimes together, sometimes separately, and perhaps with a happy ending in the end. This refreshingly modern comedy is written for two actors who play six characters in rapid succession.Samantha Ellis, the British author, is known for her razor-sharp dialog and entertaining snapshots. In How to date a feminist, she skillfully plays with gender-specific clichés and the theories of feminism. The production is directed by Jenny Regnet, who is staging a full-length production in Karlsruhe for the first time following her production of Es sagt mir nichts, das sogenannte Draußen by Sibylle Berg at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and several successful staged productions in the Das neue Stück series.
