Biography
Lucas Bastian began his musical training at the age of 11 with his first organ lessons. He completed the three-year C-level training program of the Archdiocese of Freiburg and won an award at the national "Jugend musiziert" competition in 2015. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Church Music (B) and a Master’s degree in Church Music (A) at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart.
From 2016 to 2023, Lucas Bastian worked as an organist and church musician at St. Franziskus and St. Johannes in Stuttgart alongside his studies. From 2019 to 2021, he also served as organ scholar at the American Cathedral in Paris. His most influential teachers include Ludger Lohmann, Andrew Dewar, Nathan Laube, Bernhard Haas, Jürgen Essl, and Johannes Mayr. He gained further important insights through numerous masterclasses.
Since June 2023, Lucas Bastian has been cantor of the Catholic parish of St. Raphael in Karlsruhe, based at St. Bernhard. In this role, he is responsible for church music at four churches and serves as artistic director of the organ concerts at St. Bernhard. In addition, he teaches organ as part of the C-level training program of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. For years, he has maintained an active concert schedule both domestically and abroad.
Lucas Bastian’s repertoire ranges from early music to contemporary organ music as well as a wide variety of chamber music. He has a particular passion for 19th- and 20th-century organ music, and for years has been intensively engaged with the works of Max Reger. This enthusiasm shapes not only his repertoire but also his interpretive work and is regularly reflected in his concerts and teaching activities.
