The Durlach Fire Department was founded in 1846 in Durlach, our home town. City architect Christian Hengst, about whose life we learn a great deal, recruited mainly men from the gymnastics club, but also craftsmen, for this voluntary service. The monument on Hengstplatz commemorates this and will also be the starting point of our tour. In addition to Carl Metz's fire engine, we will find further information about the Durlach Fire Department in the Pfinzgaumuseum. Additional information about the professional fire department, the volunteer fire departments, and the fire stations in Karlsruhe will round off the tour.
