The Lost Ones (Change of Mind)
Ewald Palmetshofer's plays are linguistic works of art that deal with the big picture. At the center of his Verlorenen (The Lost) is Clara, who needs a break and has chosen her grandmother's remote house for this purpose. There she unexpectedly meets Kevin, a young man who has also retreated here. At the same time, she is caught up in her past, her ex-husband Harald, his new girlfriend, and their son, who is in trouble. Die Verlorenen tells the story of people searching for meaning in a radically worldly world without God, mystery, or metaphysics. They are individuals, and "they are not created in anyone's image. The sky is empty, and the creatures on earth are completely on their own. As if one could still pray, one raises one's voice and directs it outside, where no one is." (Ewald Palmetshofer).
Ewald Palmetshofer is a multi-award-winning author and dramaturge. Die Verlorenen, which premiered at the Residenztheater in Munich, was named Play of the Year in the 2020 critics' poll conducted by Theater heute.
