In it, Dr. Brügmann highlights the importance of access to law enforcement, which begins long before the conflict is resolved by the state judiciary. He talks about the hurdles to access and proposes solutions to overcome them.
Democracy - a treasure and a constant challenge
Democracy is more than a system of rights and freedoms. It is a treasure based on the trust of citizens in the value of democracy, the common good and democratic institutions. In order to keep our democracy alive, we always need people who are guided by our free and democratic basic order, who stand up for others and actively help shape our society.
Our democratic society is not only associated with numerous guaranteed rights and freedoms. It is also never complete or finished, but requires continuous participation and the assumption of responsibility in order to protect freedoms and human rights. Binding agreements, compromises and majorities are essential - whether in associations, institutions and schools, town halls or in the Bundestag.
Our democracy is also facing enormous challenges such as globalization, climate change, pandemics, migration, artificial intelligence, wars, cyberattacks and internet manipulation. In addition, trust in democracy is dwindling among both the older and younger population. This trust needs to be regained.
At a time when it is more important than ever to distinguish facts from fakes, we need a variety of places to meet and personal exchanges at different levels. The willingness to learn and ward off dangers is essential in order to protect ourselves as individuals and our democracy. A successful democracy also involves listening to each other seriously, recognizing the added value of democracy and actively working for it.
Unusual formats and numerous co-creators enrich the conference and invite discussion. After all, democracy thrives on the participation and involvement of all people in our society.
