EN STATE
Netherlands. Originally conceived as a one-man project by Torre Florim, the whole thing developed into a guitar-driven rock band that polarizes with visually impressive videos and has developed its own unmistakable sound in the alternative rock genre.
Their influences range from Talking Heads, Rihanna and Nine Inch Nails to Radiohead, Michael Jackson, Run-DMC and Soulwax. In 2009, they were discovered by Masters Of Reality boss and producer Chris Goss at the Lowlands Festival, which led to a worldwide record deal with Mascot Records, who released their first five studio works and a live album. With their virtual hit "Witch Doctor" from the 2013 album "I_CON", usually the closing song of a De Staat concert, the five-piece from Nijmegen have now almost reached cult status. They introduced themselves to a larger audience in 2016 when they supported British superstars Muse on their "Drones" European tour at six stadium concerts, and in 2019 they stood in for headliners Prodigy at the Lowlands Festival. It is not only through such successes that De Staat have earned themselves the reputation of being one of the greatest Dutch hopes in the rock scene. Following the release of their fifth album "O" in January 2016, they were showered with awards and great reviews, including the prestigious "3voor12 Award" in the "Album of the Year" category in their home country. This makes De Staat the only Dutch band to receive this award for the second time. Their cross-genre sound mix paired with their outstanding live performance is appreciated by fans and media alike. In addition to singer Torre Florim, the line-up includes: Vedran Mircetic (g), Jop van Summeren (b), multi-instrumentalist Rocco Hueting and drummer Tim van Delft.
Now the esteemed quintet from Nijmegen are seizing the opportunity and adding four extra shows to their original live schedule for Germany. This is good news for German fans of the Dutch rock band, as they know all too well about De Staat's truly impressive live qualities. In addition to the shows in Hamburg, Cologne and Berlin scheduled for February 2022, the band around frontman Torre Florim will now also be coming to Karlsruhe, Nuremberg, Munich and Oberhausen at the end of October / beginning of November. Despite the tense coronavirus situation, things have never really been quiet for the alternative rock band, as their music is still extremely popular: "Kitty Kitty", the hit from their last album "Bubble Gum", was not only used as part of the soundtrack for the PlayStation game "Suckboy: A Big Adventure" in 2020, but was also featured on the soundtrack of the Golden Globe winner "I Care A Lot" with Rosamund Pike in January 2021. Finally, in May, De Staat's classic "Witch Doctor" won the Festival Top 999 for the third time in a row on radio station 3FM. In April last year, De Staat won the KINK radio station's Icon Prize for the first time.
