Leipzig traveling exhibition on Schlossplatz focuses on the memory of the Peaceful Revolution
How best to commemorate important historical events, such as the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Or the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, which will also be celebrated in 2024. And how can places of remembrance such as memorials contribute to promoting democracy in the present?
From June 13 to 30, the Leipzig touring exhibition "Das Denkmal ist..." invites visitors to take an artistic look at the culture of remembrance and monument processes in Germany and Eastern Europe. Among other things, cinematic works by 11 international artists will be shown. The exhibition is presented in an unusual setting, namely in a historical extension hall, a mobile architectural structure from the 1960s - both an eye-catcher and a meeting place.
