Grand Duke Frederick I shaped Baden like almost no other ruler. This exhibition explores his life, his 55-year reign, and the question of what traces of the “eternal father of the nation” have survived to this day.
When Friedrich was born on September 9, 1826, there was no indication that he would one day reign. Yet he would later become one of Baden’s most significant rulers, governing the state for 55 years and leading it to a golden age. He was even one of the key figures in the unification of Germany in 1871. On this tour, guests will learn about the life story of this liberal prince and explore the question: What aspects of the “eternal father of the nation’s” reign have endured to this day?
