In 1894, the Baden 14th Train Battalion moved into Durlach and established its permanent garrison at Karlsburg, once the residence of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach. From then on, the soldiers in their dark blue uniforms became a familiar sight in the town, and there was lively interaction between the military and the local population.
