A kind of requiem, but certainly not church music: Christian Jost's concerto for trumpet and orchestra Pietà . It is dedicated to one of the most fascinating and versatile soloists in jazz history. Jost does not quote him verbatim, but resurrects his spirit musically. For the last of his Wunderhorn symphonies with vocals, his 4th Symphony, Mahler had set out to write music without heaviness, even a humoresque, with the basic mood of the poem Das himmlische Leben used in the last movement: "Only sometimes it darkens and becomes spookily gruesome: but it is not the sky itself that clouds over, it shines on in eternal blue."
