Arcangelo Corelli wrote a concerto for the young Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni in 1690 - "fatto per la notte di Natale" - and thus made it into the TOP 99 of Baroque music. Lucie Horsch takes Bach's famous oboe concerto to a higher level with her flute playing, making it the link in a festive evening. She took up the recorder at the age of five, and as a member of the National Children's Choir she sang at an early age under conductors such as Mariss Jansons and Sir Simon Rattle. The North German Mendelssohn travels through Wales at the age of 23. He stays with a mine operator with whom he explores a lead mine. Down here of all places - and right here - 500 feet underground, he comes up with the first ideas for his divine music, which culminates in the festive Luther chorale: "Ein' feste Burg".
