Joaquin Turina Piano Quartet in A minor op. 67
Johannes Brahms Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor op. 25
Three piano quartets: The first phase of the young Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's development was decisively shaped by his chamber music works. He wrote the Piano Quartet No. 1 in C minor op. 1 when he was just 13 years old. The Spanish composer JoaquÃn Turina achieved a convincing synthesis of Andalusian color and classical-cyclical form with his Piano Quartet in A minor op. 67. The most popular of the three piano quartets written by Johannes Brahms, No. 1 in G minor op. 25, with its magnificent solos for violin and viola, concludes the concert evening.
