Chirping birds, the footsteps of a wanderer, the babbling of a brook and a thunderstorm in the distance. Can this be depicted musically? Beethoven based his 6th Symphony, also known as the "Pastoral", on the theme of nature and imitated in his music what he saw, sensed and felt during a walk in the forest.
