Description
There are also one or two tours with a bite at low mountain level. One such alpine delicacy lies in the middle of the nature reserve around the Ruhestein.
Not far from the Black Forest High Road, near the village of Ottenhöfen, there is a rocky ridge over 400 meters long. The only via ferrata in the northern Black Forest leads hikers over the "Karlsruher Grat".
The elongated ridge of quartz porphyry has its origins in volcanic activity. In some places, even after around 250 million years, the flow marks of the cooled lava can still be seen.
Ridge hikes require sturdy footwear, dry weather and a good level of fitness. Recommended starting points for tours are the hiking parking lot at the Edelfrauengrab waterfalls in Ottenhöfen, the parking lot at Ruhestein or the Gasthaus Bosenstein near Seebach.
Highlights along the Karlsruhe ridge
- Granite clifftop of the Brennten Schrofen with good distant views of Ottenhöfen and the surrounding area
- Heat-loving nutrient-poor grassland on the Bosenstein
- Gottschlägbach waterfalls with the legendary noblewoman's grave
- beautiful view from the Melkerei- and Vogelskopf to the Hornisgrinde Achertal and Rhine plain
- Striking red sandstone on the Vogelskopf
