Description
"The extensive Œuvre of the landscape painter August Kutterer, born near Karlsruhe in 1898, is closely linked to the artistic developments at the Karlsruhe Art Academy. Based on the idea of pure painting long cultivated there by Wilhelm Trübner, an artistic tradition of processing and refining Impressionist stylistic tendencies was established in the former residence city of Baden. Kutterer's art can also be assigned to this particular Karlsruhe art movement."

This trail takes you to the creative sites of the Karlsruhe painter August Kutterer. It offers you an insight into Kutterer's life and home. You move through a landscape characterized by water and the vegetation of the Rhine floodplains. August Kutterer's home and studio are located in Daxlanden, Vorderstr. 14, the westernmost district of Karlsruhe, which still has a village feel to it today. This is where he lived, worked and painted, and where the walk begins. The light conditions, colors and moods of the floodplain landscape inspired Kutterer throughout his life. He often painted on the Old Rhine, the Saumsee lakes and in and around Daxlanden. Follow him on these paths and discover his motifs. At the Saumsee lakes, now a nature reserve, benches invite you to linger. You can still sense something of the atmosphere and tranquillity that Kutterer experienced there. Over the Federbachbrücke bridge and through the picturesque Altdaxlanden, the trail takes you back to the starting point in Vorderstraße. There are also refreshment stops along the way: a pizzeria, a Greek restaurant and the artists' pub where numerous artists and art professors from the Karlsruhe Academy met at the beginning of the 20th century.
You can pick up the accompanying booklet for the circular route directly at the starting point at Vorderstr. 14, where you can take a brochure from the take-away box for a nominal fee of 3.00 euros.
