The Hallenbau Celebration of Cultural Diversity
The Hallenbau Cultural Quarter Hallenbau a diverse program centered on media art, sound art, and social perspectives. At the ZKM | Center for Art and Media, KAMUNA guests can look forward to the new exhibition “Silver Egg – The Sensuality of Media Art” as a special highlight, in addition to the classic “museum scavenger hunt for all ages.” Here, visitors can, among other things, create their own perfume, listen to the fish while “diving,” and engage with the other works through the senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and movement. Another highlight at the ZKM is the performance“Elene’s Fugitive Line (2026)” by Natia Chikvaidze, Davit Khorbaladze, and Karolina Sobel, in cooperation with the UNESCO City of Media Arts Karlsruhe.
Right next door, the Karlsruhe Art Museum invites visitors to discover human emotions and explore the small masterpieces in the exhibition “Expressive! Prints from Dürer to Schlichter” up close with a magnifying glass. As a vibrant hub for the arts, the Karlsruhe Art Museum also offers a diverse program of events surrounding the exhibitions, “Tino Zimmermann. New German Painting” and “Update! A Fresh Look at the Collection – Scene Change 4.” “Cocktails & Beats” will be waiting outside the museum entrance all evening.
The program at Hallenbau is rounded out Hallenbau exciting special tours and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the Staatliche Kunsthalle at the ZKM. At “Art Action,” young visitors can discover art in new ways, for example through costumes and drawing their own pictures. “Bewegt in die Nacht – Kunst trifft Tanz” is an exciting event for all age groups.
Following the KAMUNA event, the University of Art and Design invites guests to the official after-show party in Lichthof 3 of the Hallenbau under the motto “Culture matters—even after midnight.” In addition to art installations by the students, KAMUNA guests can look forward to a variety of DJ sets and delicious drinks.
The Orangerie Returns with a New Exhibition
Following a successful renovation, the Orangerie at the Staatliche Kunsthalle has reopened its doors and is presenting the extensive body of work by artist Nanne Meyer—inspired by the Karlsruhe Orangerie building—in the special exhibition “Gezieltes Umherirren.” Using pen and brush, she explores the phenomenon of the orange and, as part of an exclusive KAMUNA short tour, invites visitors to approach life’s existential questions with openness and lightheartedness.
Weinbrenner Special at the Market Square Complex
Making its debut as a KAMUNA partner this year is the crypt at the Evangelical City Church on Karlsruhe’s Marktplatz. As part of the event series “200 Years of Inspiration: Weinbrenner—Architect of a New Era,” the City Archives invites visitors to a small Weinbrenner exhibition in the crypt from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, offering personal insights into the work of the famous Karlsruhe architect.
In addition, KAMUNA and KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH are offering ten special guided tours following in the footsteps of Karlsruhe architect Friedrich Weinbrenner.
From 6:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., two tour guides will take interested visitors on a journey through the neoclassical architecture of Karlsruhe’s market square ensemble. The meeting point for the half-hour, free Weinbrenner walking tour is the Tourist Information Office at Schaufenster Karlsruhe, which will be open on Saturday, August 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. in conjunction with KAMUNA.
