On August 2, 2025, 21 cultural institutions invite you to a night full of art, culture and discoveries at the Karlsruhe Museum Night KAMUNA from 6 p.m. to midnight. Under the motto "Knowledge creates diversity", they have put together over 250 unforgettable program items.
"Karlsruhe's culture is colorful, diverse and thrives on the enthusiasm of its protagonists," explains Stephan Theysohn, overall coordinator of KAMUNA and Culture Theme Manager at KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH. "This year's motto "Knowledge creates diversity" fits perfectly. It not only refers to the diversity of Karlsruhe's culture, but also to the 200th anniversary of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which will be celebrated with numerous events in 2025. Visitors to KAMUNA at the ZKM will be able to marvel at the exhibition "200 Years of KIT - 100 Objects". And here we have come full circle, because KIT - at that time still in the form of a university and nuclear research center - was one of the founding members of the ZKM."
Four in one go: there are four cultural institutions to experience in the Hallenbau . ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Städtische Galerie, "KunsthalleKarlsruhe@ZKM" and Hochschule für Gestaltung provide exciting insights at KAMUNA. In addition to the KIT exhibition, KAMUNA guests can also look forward to the AI workshop "Reinvent yourself - as an action figure" at the ZKM. Another highlight is the preview of the media artwork le cab pour le avenir heureux. Using artificial intelligence, it brings the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations to life and can also be seen at the media art exhibition "Media art is here" as part of the SCHLOSSLICHTSPIELE. Here, public spaces, shop windows and facades become a digital stage for performances, videos and interdisciplinary projects. The Städtische Galerie is once again offering delicious drinks from the Santos cocktail bar in addition to a program around the exhibitions. These will also be available at the pop-up wine bar of the Hochschule für Gestaltung. The program in the Hallenbau is rounded off by special guided tours and a look behind the scenes of "KunsthalleKarlsruhe@ZKM".
"Baden in culture once again": this is the motto under which the Baden State Museum will kick off the museum summer on KAMUNA evening, as extensive renovations are due to begin in the fall. In addition to the current exhibitions, KAMUNA guests can look forward to a view from the castle tower, a selfie point, a digital date night with the museum app PING, a guided tour with Margrave Karl Wilhelm himself and much more.
This year, the Stiftung Forum Recht, the Architekturschaufenster and Planet KA are participating as KAMUNA partners for the first time. The Stiftung Forum Recht offers a guided tour of the pop-up exhibition "RECHT - Spielregeln des Alltags" (LAW - Rules of Everyday Life) at Karlsruhe Central Station, a short version of the city tour "Recht stadtlich" (Law in the City) and a quiz on law and the rule of law. Visitors can also take a quiz in the architecture showcase, which asks: "Where was this photographed?". Planet KA offers a glimpse into the vastness of space and the cultural history of the planetarium in the film screening "100 Years of Eternity".
Further highlights of KAMUNA, such as the children's program or the numerous special tours, can be found on the website www.kamuna.de. The program items can be sorted by topic and added to a personal watch list. It is also possible to select barrier-free offers such as guided tours in German sign language.
To ensure that visitors can easily reach all the highlights of KAMUNA, two shuttle bus lines have been set up again this year in cooperation with the VBK, which are included in the KAMUNA ticket. Both meet at the Natural History Museum. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes to the Generallandesarchiv, Hallenbau and RetroGames e.V. Line 2 runs every 30 minutes to the Verkehrsmuseum, Treffpunkt Schienennahverkehr/Planet KA and Pfinzgaumuseum in Durlach. Please note: Due to construction work, there is a change in the public transport route concept.
