"Above all, we want to use this event to allay our tourism partners' fears of artificial intelligence and encourage them to get to grips with the new technologies," explains Pascal Rastetter, Managing Director of KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH. "We take the worries and concerns that AI triggers among many partners very seriously. As a DMO, as the "engine for tourism in Karlsruhe", we therefore see it as our task to show what opportunities are hidden behind the new tools and measures."
For example, KTG already uses AI-supported tools such as Eye Able Assist® on its website, which adapts to the needs of people with disabilities and limitations, such as a live translation of website text content into simple language. In addition, the translation tool DeepL is used, which not only processes large amounts of text in a very short time, but also translates very precisely and contextually. This facilitates the work of our colleagues in the tourist information office, for example, who receive inquiries from all over the world every day and can communicate with all guests thanks to DeepL.
People make tourism - AI provides support
Keynote speaker Bastian Hiller, Managing Partner of Teejit GmbH from Eichstätt, provided an introduction to the topic of AI. With his presentation "More space for people: How artificial intelligence is changing the world of work in tourism", he focused on the potential of the new technologies. AI can support the industry in many processes, but it cannot replace people in tourism. For example, a service robot could help out at reception or in gastronomy, but contact with authentic hosts remains important for guests. Those who are open and curious about this technology will discover that AI can create space for the essentials, namely having more time for their guests.
AI magician Simon Pierro wows the audience
Simon Pierro, Germany's first AI magician, gave an entertaining demonstration that ChatGPT does not know the answer to every question. In his incomparable way, he combined the art of magic with technological achievements such as cell phones and iPads. Now at home all over the world, the magician from Ettlingen not only showed magic with artificial intelligence, but also with artificial intelligence.
Cooperation with the IHK: series of events on AI in tourism
To ensure that the future topic of artificial intelligence is not forgotten after the Tourism Day, KTG has initiated an exciting and informative series of events in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Pascal Rastetter is delighted: "In four practice-oriented workshops, we will be providing information about the many possible applications of AI and explaining how our partners can use this pioneering technology to benefit their company."
The AI workshop starts on October 16: "The power of prompts: what it is and why I should know it!". At the 2nd AI workshop on November 14, the topic will be "Text and image generation using AI on social media, websites, etc.". The 3rd AI workshop on November 19 will provide numerous tips on: "Review management made easy with AI". And on 5 December, the organizers invite you to the 4th AI workshop, which is all about "AI in digital advertising in tourism".
