The 26th Karlsruhe Museum Night KAMUNA was a complete success for Karlsruhe culture

Art, culture and curiosities: on the evening of August 2, 2025, the Karlsruhe Museum Night KAMUNA once again attracted numerous culture fans from near and far to the fan-shaped city. From 6 p.m. to midnight, the 21 participating cultural institutions offered a diverse program ranging from hands-on activities and special tours to live music - in line with this year's motto "Knowledge creates diversity".

Even the inconsistent weather did nothing to dampen the mood of the 28,000 or so culture-loving visitors. And thanks to the free use of the two KAMUNA shuttle buses included in the ticket, the cultural night was quick and relaxed.

"KAMUNA was another night full of stories, encounters and special moments," summarizes Stephan Theysohn, Overall Coordinator and Theme Manager Culture at KTG Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH. "The evening once again impressively demonstrated how lively and diverse culture can be. Thank you to everyone who made this possible: the cultural institutions, the sponsors and cooperation partners and all the visitors."

KAMUNA shows the many facets of the cultural landscape

After the anniversary edition in 2024, Karlsruhe's cultural institutions had once again come up with a great program for 2025: exciting special tours, unique insights behind the scenes, impressive performances, hands-on activities, museum rallies and much more were on offer. The gastronomic offerings with cool drinks and delicious food were also impressive.

There was a particularly large crowd at the Baden State Museum, which will be closing for extensive renovations from the end of September. Under the motto "Baden in culture once again", KAMUNA kicked off the museum summer, which offers many highlights until September 28. KAMUNA guests could choose from around 30 program items: A view from the castle tower, a selfie station, a date night with the museum app "Ping!", an encounter with city founder Karl Wilhelm, numerous special guided tours and much more - it was sometimes difficult to choose.

The second cultural hotspot of the evening was the Hallenbau: with ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Städtische Galerie, Hochschule für Gestaltung and "KunsthalleKarlsruhe@ZKM", visitors were able to discover four cultural institutions in one area. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was another "guest institution" alongside the Staatliche Kunsthalle. In the spirit of joint thinking and research and the close cooperation with the KIT, the ZKM presented the exhibition "200 years of KIT. 100 Objects. Parts of the whole". The interactive MIS trainer, a simulation system for minimally invasive surgery, is particularly impressive.

This year, the ZKM once again focused on artificial intelligence: action figures of the KAMUNA guests were created in the popular AI workshop. And in the preview "le cab pour l'avenir heureux" by Benjamin Jantzen, the UN's 17 sustainability goals were visualized with AI-supported images. Art Action at the Staatliche Kunsthalle, which is presenting part of its collection at the ZKM due to the refurbishment, offered an active art experience. Those who wanted to take a short break from the hustle and bustle of the Hallenbau could do so at the pop-up wine bar of the Hochschule für Gestaltung or with cocktails from Santo's Cocktailbar in front of the Städtische Galerie.

In addition to the large museums, smaller museums also offered the opportunity for a visit, such as RetroGames e.V. with Germany's oldest public exhibition of video game machines, the General State Archive with a look into the otherwise closed stacks or the local rail transport meeting point with historic streetcars.

Accessibility: In order to make art and culture accessible to everyone, many events were barrier-free and inclusive. For example, guided tours were offered in sign language and for people with visual impairments.
