Joint vision
for a greener Kaiserstraße

Eastern Kaiserstrasse quarter

Text 1

The "Östliche Kaiserstraße" district wants to become greener and more liveable. At the "Climathon" on October 27 and 28, 2023, all participants had the opportunity to develop ideas together to get a little closer to this goal. Innovative ideas for a sustainable transformation of the eastern Kaiserstrasse were initiated. The "Climathon" was organized by the Impact Hub Karlsruhewhich, in addition to the Triangle, also made its premises available as an event venue.

Postcards as a glimpse into the future

A total of five groups were formed to present creative solutions for Kaiserstraße to the east. These included, for example, the idea of distributing individually designed postcard photos of Kaiserstrasse to local residents and business people. They could use their ideas to create new approaches for the development of the street. This gives people a visual idea of what their street could look like in the future.

Mobile oases of well-being

Another idea involves the production of small wooden carts that could be equipped with seating, flowerbeds, umbrellas and displays as platforms for artists. These carts should not only make the city center greener and livelier, but also serve as places where people can relax. The carts could be placed in front of stores, with the owners having the opportunity to design them according to their own taste.

Art as a symbol of sustainability

Another project idea suggests erecting a sculpture on Kronenplatz that could be made from at least 50 percent natural materials and 50 percent recycled materials, such as old bottles or cans. This community project could revitalize the square and strengthen the connection to nature.

Sustainability rally guides you through the corporate landscape

Students at Karlshochschule are planning a "sustainability rally" in which participants will get to know the most sustainable businesses in Karlsruhe. Cooperation with the "neighborhood management" is of key importance here.

The collaboration as part of the "Climathon" has shown that many innovative ideas and committed supporters are ready to make the eastern Kaiserstrasse greener and more sustainable. These projects are not only a step towards a more liveable city, but also an inspiring example of the synergies that can arise from community projects of this kind.
