Werderplatz
Werderplatz is a lively square and the cultural center of Karlsruhe's Südstadt district. Multi-cultural and alternative stores and bars dominate here.Â
In addition to shopping opportunities, you will also find the KOHI cultural center and the "Indianerbrunnen" fountain—the landmark of the southern part of the city. For many

Our Werderplatz in Südstadt is a bit shabby and quite chic. Its unique atmosphere is characterized by numerous "Südstadt Indians" who make Werderplatz a cheerful, creative and multicultural experience. Here you can discover garlands decorating the monumental Johannis Paulus Church. Imaginative graffiti decorates individual house walls and carpets are repurposed by students as curtains.
There's no getting around the Indian fountain. It forms the center of Werderplatz and is also the landmark of Südstadt. It has already appeared in films and on television on one or two occasions. There are many shopping opportunities around the Indian Fountain. The "Nahkauf" store on Werderplatz is generally regarded as the "craziest" supermarket in Karlsruhe and because the Südstadt goes to bed late, it is open until 10 pm. Laden 3" is the Südstadt's organic paradise. The "Zuckerbäcker" makes the hearts of all chocolate fans beat faster and "Il Gargano" offers authentic Italian cuisine.
In the summer months, life takes place outdoors. Beer bars from the "Wirtshaus' Wolfbräu" and the "iuno" bar adorn the dark cobblestones of Werderplatz. The side streets are home to artists' studios, antique dealers and bars with a special flair. There is a weekly market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7.30 am to 2.00 pm. An eye-catcher in the middle of Werderplatz is the open bookcase. Anyone who likes can take books out of it or put them in.
