Knielingen racecourse
The horse races in Knielingen have a history of more than 200 years and are still a real spectator magnet today.
The Knielingen breeding and racing club can look back on a tradition of more than 90 years. Wilhelm Ruf and Fritz Bierhalter imported trotting horses from Bavaria to Baden, bringing competitive sport to the Knielingen racecourse. However, the beginnings of horse breeding and equestrian sport date back to the 19th century. Since then, much has remained the same as in its historic beginnings, but of course there have also been developments. Where there used to be a horse race once a week for the agricultural population and around 60 to 80 foals for sale, the current events alternate between gallop and trotting races. The starters come to Knielingen from all over Germany and on race days the racecourse attracts around 3500 spectators. Betting is still accepted, all under the guiding principle of showing "good and fair" sport. In addition to the races, the catering and children's program provide entertainment. The entrance fee is 4 euros.
