Hallenbau
From old masters and contemporary sculpture to postmodern media installations and up-and-coming artists: you can experience art from a wide range of eras and styles in the Karlsruhe Hallenbau .
Four institutions under one roof
First, the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and the Kunstmuseum Karlsruhe, formerly the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe, moved into the building of the former munitions factory, followed shortly thereafter by the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG). With the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe , a fourth institution is currently a guest: it is showing parts of its collection in the exhibition rooms of the ZKM.Â
Culture in a former industrial building
The Hallenbau originally built as a munitions factory and converted into a cultural center in the 1990s. The industrial architecture and spacious areas provide room for exhibitions, art projects, and cultural events, combining historical buildings with contemporary culture. The spectrum ranges from media art at the ZKM to design exhibitions at the HfG and contemporary art at the Kunstmuseum Karlsruhe, complemented by presentations at the Kunsthalle. The result is a place where different perspectives on art, design, and media come together.
