On the upper Robberg slope, known as "Luginsland", stands the massive Bismarck Tower as a glorification of the "Iron Chancellor" Otto von Bismarck.
The 15-meter-high Bismarck Tower was designed by Karlsruhe architects on land provided by an Ettlingen forester and inaugurated in 1901 with a torchlight procession.
The upper part of the Alb Valley sandstone tower is divided into squat three-quarter columns. The back bears Bismarck's house coat of arms in relief, consisting of three oak leaves and three clover leaves. It only came into the possession of the town of Ettlingen in 1977, which completely renovated it in 1998. The Bismarck Tower has been open to the public again since May 1999 and offers a magnificent view which, in fine weather, extends as far as the Vosges Mountains and the Palatinate Mountains.
The tower is open from April to September on the third Sunday of every month from 11 am to 5 pm. The Bismarck Tower is not open in rainy weather. The key can also be borrowed for a deposit from the Museum Ettlingen, telephone +49 7243 101273.
