The exotic animal house

The Exotic House opened in June 2015 and is the second largest house of its kind in a German zoo after Gondwanaland at Leipzig Zoo.

The main theme of the Exotic House is “Riverside Landscapes”. Since May 2015, the Exotic House has been gradually filling up with life, first behind the scenes and then, from the beginning of June, in the large and small halls as well as in the aquariums, terrariums and paludariums.

With around 2000 animals in almost 100 species, the Exotic House now offers a wide variety of different animals. The largest community is provided by the animals living freely in the large hall, such as the crowned pigeon, exotic songbirds, bats and the Seychelles giant tortoises. The two-toed sloth is clearly one of the visitors' favorites. All the animals are captive-bred, not wild-caught.

Some animals also live together in the terrariums and aquariums. The Seychelles giant tortoise, for example, has its own enclosure, as do the spectacled leaf-nosed turtles, which live in their large bat cave.
