World Games in the heart of Europe
This international sporting event brings people from all over the world together "in the heart of Europe." Karlsruhe is the first city since the founding of The World Games to host the event for the second time.
Karlsruhe's connection to this major event goes beyond its geographical location in the heart of Europe. The World Games also symbolically and emotionally represent sporting and cultural diversity and the coming together of people from all over the world who share a passion for sport and feel connected through it. Around 4,000 athletes from over 100 countries will compete against each other in approximately 30 sports.
The 13th edition of The World Games will take place from July 19 to 29, 2029.

Karlsruhe is hosting the games for the second time
Karlsruhe is the first city since the founding of The World Games to host the games for the second time. To date, The World Games have only been held twice in Germany, in 1989 in Karlsruhe and in 2005 in Duisburg.
The World Games in 1989 played a key role in cementing the city's reputation as a venue for major sporting and cultural events: from the city's anniversary celebrations in 2015 to the Ecumenical World Church Congress in 2022, Karlsruhe has proven that it has the necessary expertise and organizational structure to successfully host major events.
UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts
Karlsruhe is Germany's first UNESCO City of Media Arts
In 2019, Karlsruhe was the first and so far only city in Germany to be awarded the title of Creative City of Media Arts by UNESCO and to be included in the international UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).
As a UNESCO Creative City, Karlsruhe is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular the role of creativity and culture in building sustainable urban societies.
