The classic tribute to Carl Benz, including the parade, was canceled by the organizers in 2023 due to the poor weather forecast. On Sunday, April 23, 2023, an alternative classic car meeting was held as part of the Festival of the Senses around 350 historic vehicles against the backdrop of Karlsruhe Palace. There was also an information stand for the special exhibition "The 80s - they're back!" and a racing car from the KIT KA-Racing Team were presented in front of the palace.
The tribute to Carl Benz honors the famous automobile inventor Carl Benz, who was born in the Mühlburg district. This year, the traditional event finally returned to its traditional location in front of Karlsruhe Palace, the most beautiful backdrop that Karlsruhe has to offer.

At the "Tribute to Carl Benz - City Edition", Karlsruhe was expecting around 300 classic cars on Sunday, May 8, 2022, to pay tribute to the automobile inventor Carl Benz, who was born in Karlsruhe-Mühlburg.
Between 10:00 and 16:00, highlights of automotive history could be admired up close on the railway-free Kaiserstraße as well as the side streets and Kronenplatz. The most interesting and rarest vehicles were presented on the lower Kronenplatz with exciting details about their history. From 4:15 p.m., the historic cars set off on a parade through the city center and could be seen in action on their way from Kronenplatz through Kaiserstraße and back through the circle.
Visitors to Karlsruhe city center were able to experience 136 years of automotive history in motion - made possible by the invention of one of our city's great sons!
The classic car rally "Tribute to Carl Benz" has been taking place in Karlsruhe since 1999. Since then, the event has regularly attracted tens of thousands of visitors with more than 400 highly polished historic vehicles on display. The "Tribute to Carl Benz" initiative pays tribute to the great achievement of Carl Benz, who was born on November 25, 1844 in the Karlsruhe suburb of Mühlburg. His "Benz Patent Motor Car Number 1", for which he applied for a patent in January 1886, is regarded as the first practical automobile - and Karlsruhe as the home of the automobile inventor.
