Nowadays, horse-drawn carriages can only be seen in movies. But in Durlach, you can see some real examples: Hobby carriage restorer Stephan Blinn now owns ten carriages from all over Europe in his private carriage museum, which he passionately looks after. In an old forge, the last functioning blacksmith's workshop in Durlach, which has been in existence since 1706, he begins with welding and other rough work. In the wood workshop, where the professional puppeteer also makes his own puppets, he carries out all the woodwork and finishing work on the carriages.

High above the old town is Altensteig Castle, whose impressive residential tower is the only undestroyed castle in the Black Forest to this day. The "Old Castle" was built as a fortification from around 1230. The flanking towers "Himmel" and "Hölle" and the late Romanesque shield wall bear witness to this. The museum in the Old Castle lovingly brings the history of the town of Altensteig to life.
