On Sunday, the Festival of the Senses celebrated a very special anniversary: 100 years of the Karlsruhe Professional Fire Department. Together with the Baden-Württemberg State Fire Department Association, the Karlsruhe Fire Department invited everyone—young and old—to a grand firefighting spectacle: Around 120 historic fire trucks and 20 historic fire engines were on display at the Fire Department Vintage Vehicle Meet between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Schlossplatz, offering fascinating insights into the history of the fire department and its technology.
A special highlight was the hand pump competition, in which water was pumped from the Karl Friedrich Monument toward Schlossplatz using historic fire hoses—an impressive spectacle that demonstrated how firefighting used to work.
Mobile Bicycle Museum &
BIG Bobbycar Course
The Mobile Bicycle Museum invited visitors to the Festival of the Senses to discover the history and evolution of the bicycle in a very special way through fascinating exhibits: From the first walking machines around 1817 to high-wheelers and extraordinary designer bikes, the exhibition offered exciting insights into over 200 years of mobility history.
But it wasn’t just about watching: in the interactive area, visitors could get hands-on. Around 20 unique fun and skill-based bikes were available to try out. From mini-acrobatic bikes to a bicycle with eccentrically spoked wheels and children’s penny-farthing bikes, there was something for everyone. On a historic bike course, the Festival of the Senses became an experience for young and old alike, where movement, curiosity, and plenty of fun took center stage.
The youngest visitors also got to enjoy the BIG Bobby Car course .
